MBBS viva practice · 1st Prof to Final Year

Viva
Roast.

Face Prof. Kaalkoot, a strict and very sarcastic external examiner. He asks short, board-style viva questions. Get one right and he grudgingly lets you live. Get it wrong and he roasts you, out loud. In Hindi he shares the panel with Prof. Halahal and Prof. Zehreeli.

The science behind Viva Roast

Why you never forget the question that got you roasted

Every time Prof. Kaalkoot roasts you for a wrong answer, you remember why you got roasted. That’s the whole idea. A sharp, funny, slightly embarrassing moment is exactly what the brain files away, so the right answer that comes with it sticks like a core memory.

  1. Step 1 · Testing effectYou commit to an answer

Trying to recall an answer, even when you get it wrong, builds memory far better than rereading notes. Typing it yourself adds to it.

    Roediger & Karpicke, 2006 · Slamecka & Graf, 1978
  2. Step 2 · Emotional taggingThe roast lands

A surprising, emotional moment switches on the amygdala, which tells the hippocampus to store what just happened more strongly.

    McGaugh, 2004
  3. Step 3 · Humour effectIt’s funny, so it sticks

People remember humorous material better than the same idea said plainly. The joke becomes the hook for the fact.

    Schmidt, 1994
  4. Step 4 · HypercorrectionThe model answer arrives

Mistakes you were confident about, once corrected straight away, are remembered especially well afterwards.

    Butterfield & Metcalfe, 2001
  5. Step 5 · SpacingIt comes back later

Questions don’t repeat until you’ve done the rest, so each one returns spaced out, which beats cramming for long-term memory.

    Cepeda et al., 2006
Final diagnosisRoast + correct answer = a memory that stays

The roasts are over the top but never personal: a moment of mild embarrassment helps memory, real stress gets in the way. Research findings are simplified here, and Viva Roast is a revision aid, not a guarantee.

For fun & revision only

Viva Roast is made only for fun and entertainment. It is a light-hearted way to revise, not a real examination, and there is a lot more roasting here than any real examiner would (hopefully) dish out. The roasts are deliberately over the top and are not meant to hurt or insult anyone.

The questions are based on topics from previous years’ MBBS university papers, First Aid for the USMLE and NEET PG / INI-CET preparation resources, written in our own words, and the model answers are short revision pointers. Always check them against your standard textbooks.

Sig: take with humour, one question at a time.
